We did the red (history) horse-drawn carriage tour with the Sea Island Carriage Company in Beaufort and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our tour guide was Kathy, and our horse was Angus, an Engish Shire. So many beautiful homes were saved, because Beaufort was occupied by the Union Army in 1861 and not burned down like so many other southern cities. Kathy was quite the historian and entertainer! Kathy told us so much about the many beautiful homes. One of Beaufort’s most well known homes is The Castle, or the Joseph Johnson House. It and others were used as military hospitals by Union Troops. It was only an hour tour, but Kathy made the most of the time for us!

We had a great carriage tour with Courtney and Jack the horse. Courtney was very knowledgeable about the houses in historic Beaufort and the story’s about them.

The historic information on this tour added so much to our first visit to Beaufort. The carriage was comfortable and the guide was full of knowledge and very pleasant.

Our tour guide was Kathy who grew up in Beaufort and had a true love for the area. The headsets were very helpful and could hear every word she said. We have owned a vacation home here for 10 years and learned a great deal of history about Beaufort that we didn't know! Also a plus is that their horses are trailered back to their home pasture every day and they do not work them in high temperatures. Recommend this tour.

Our tour guide introduced us to a surprisingly rich history in Beaufort. Our guide was very knowledgeable and sweet. She clearly loved her horse, Angus, who was a bit of a character all his own. We enjoyed the tour very much and highly recommend it.

When visiting my sister in Beaufort the week before Thanksgiving she surprised us with the first tour of the day on November 21, 2021. It was a beautiful day in Beaufort! Sam was our guide, she was super knowledgeable and interjected great stories to highlight the history of the area. Angus (our horse) was a bit sluggish at first, being the first tour he wasn't a morning horse, :) However, he quickly got with the program and was a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, the carriage was well maintained, clean and the added benefit of headsets for those seated further back made it easy to hear what Sam had to say without straining over the traffic noise. This was also the day of Historic Holiday Home Tours and there was much foot traffic; Sam and Angus navigated the narrow passages with ease. Next time I visit my sister we may just have to do this again!

Our driver Kathy, was very knowledgeable and did a great job on the tour. Our only complaint is when ever she needed to drive she turned her head to speak when driving and we could not hear a lot of what was being said. A head set probably would have been more beneficial and appreciated by those hearing compromised.
